Music and friends’ voice channels go together, so at some point I wrote a bot to serve both. Jathym is a deliberately small Discord music bot: paste a YouTube link, and it plays in your voice channel.
Code: github.com/JackyLiu47/jathym
Commands
The prefix is ~.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
~play [url] | Plays a song from its YouTube URL. If something is already playing, the new song joins the queue. |
~skip | Skips to the next song in the queue. |
~stop | Stops playback, clears the queue and leaves the channel. |
Running it
You need Node, npm and FFmpeg installed.
git clone git@github.com:JackyLiu47/jathym.git
cd jathym
npm install
Then add your bot token to config.json and start it with Node.
Why it’s worth a mention
It is small, but it was my first time building something other people used every day. A queue, three commands and reliable cleanup on ~stop were enough to make the server’s evenings a bit better, and that is a good reminder that useful software doesn’t have to be big.
